Dr. Bruce Bukowski, a longtime member of the UW-Whitewater football family, was named Director of the Center for Academic Excellence at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland this summer.
Bukowski served as the Director of Academy Advising and Exploration Center at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater since 2002 and prior to that served as a tenured faculty member in the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching Department since 1986.
“We’re thrilled to have Dr. Bukowski join us at the academy and lead our Class of 1963 Center for Academic Excellence,” said Naval Academy Academic Dean and Provost Dr. Andrew Phillips. “Dr. Bukowski has significant experience in developing and leading a nationally recognized and award winning academic center in Wisconsin, and he has a background and leadership style that is a great ‘fit’ for our institution.”
“Bu” was hired by Bob Berezowitz as the Defensive Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. In his 16 years as the Defensive Coordinator the Warhawks record was 106-44-3 with 6 WSUC Championships, 3 NCAA Playoff appearances and on 5 different occasions the Warhawks lead the WSCU in total defense.
Bukowski was close to the UWW football program throughout his tenure on campus. Most recently serving as a scoreboard operator game days at Perkins Stadium.
