Happy Thanksgiving Warhawk Football Fans

Welcome to a Thanksgiving Day edition of Voice's Eye on Football Blog
- I watched Warhawk football practice Wednesday evening in the rain, wind, and chilly (37 degrees) conditions of Perkins Stadium. It was good to see a spirited practice and considering the weather conditions were not the best, I was impressed by the way the Hawks performed. Hey, if it is playoff time at Perkins Stadium - the weather can get challenging can't it?

- Matt Blanchard will be a game-time decision for the UWW coaching staff for Whitewater’s 2nd round playoff game vs. unbeaten Trine University (Indiana).

- Trine head coach Matt Land tells D3football.com that he’s certainly not downplaying taking on the Warhawks. He said it will be a great challenge for the Thunder to duplicate the numbers they have produced all year while going 11-0, but the Thunder will be prepared to try to do just that. “It’s the biggest game we’ve had in five years,” Land said. “It’s big when you’re playing the defending national champion and No. 1 team in the country with a pretty good football team. It’s all we can ask for. A lot of people want to make our seed and strength of schedule a topic of conversation.

- The UW-Whitewater men’s basketball team opened the home portion of its schedule Wednesday evening with a an 82-67 non-conference victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Kachel Gymnasium. Great balance for the Warhawks who were led by junior center Chris Davis' double-double, 21 points and 15 rebounds. Davis also led Whitewater with four steals and was tops in the game with three blocked shots. Four others joined him in double figures, including sophomore guard Antone Byrd 16, senior guard D.J. Dantzler 13, freshman guard Cody Odegaard 12, and junior forward Alex Edmunds with 11.

Pat Miller’s team will take the holiday weekend off prior to opening conference play next Wednesday night by hosting UW-La Crosse.

- What a win for Keri Carollo’s Warhawk women’s basketball team Tuesday night. The Hawks knocked off 6th ranked Illinois Wesleyan 74-60 at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois. Emily Bestor, Katie Burton, and Jamie Swanson scored eleven points each to lead a balanced Warhawk attack.

The Warhawk women’s next game will be at Clarke College in Dubuque on Saturday. The first home appearance of the 2010-2011 season will be Wednesday, December 8 at 7:00 versus UW-Stevens Point.
