Random thoughts on the Tuesday of North Central week

- If you haven't heard, it looks like Matt Blanchard may be back in the line-up for the North Central game. On last night's KOOL 106.5 UW-Whitewater Coaches Show, Coach Leipold to Gary Douglas and me “Right now its looking like Matt (Blanchard) will start. He (Blanchard) has made steady progress in his rehab process,” Leipold said. “His work during this week’s practice will ultimately determine if he (Matt) will be back after missing the first two playoff games.”

- The ON-LINE VOTING deadline for the Gagliardi Trophy is 12-Noon Today. Make sure you cast your vote for Aaron Rusch by clicking onto the Warhawkfootball.com News Wire where the top story will allow you to link the the official Gagliardi Trophy ballot.

- Over the past two weeks. the Warhawks have played, and beaten, two of the elite passing teams in the country. This week, the Hawks prepare for a team that relys on its solid defense and balanced offense to enter Saturday's NCAA Division III Quarterfinal game against UWW on Saturday in Naperville.

- The Cardinal's defense is led by Matt Wenger who has caught the attention of NFL scouts. The CCIW Defensive Player of the Year will enter Saturday's showdown vs. UW-Whitewater with impressive stats. Wenger has 107 tackles on the season - 57 more than the No. 2 Cardinal tackler.

- NCC's defense is definitely NOT JUST Matt Wenger. Valente Garza and Wille Hayes have combined for 22 sacks so far in 2010. Pressure on the quarterback has been a key component to the North Central defense's success.

- An updated weekend weather forecast for Saturday's game down in Naperville calls for snow showers and a high in the mid 30s.
