Lane Olson heading to Germany with Team USA

Former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater linebacker Lane Olson has been selected to play for the 2011 U.S. Men’s National Team in football in the fourth International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World Championship to be held July 8-16 in Austria.

Olson is one of 39 players named to Team USA.

The “Lane Train” isn’t the first former Warhawk football player that has participated as a member of Team USA.

Ryan Kleppe played a major role in Team USA’s 2007 gold medal win. The U.S. defeated Japan, 23-20, in double overtime in Tokyo, Japan. UWW’s Bob Berezowitz was an assistant coach for the 2007 squad.

The IFAF Senior World Championship is an eight-nation football tournament held every four years since 1999. Games will be played in Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna.
