Voice’s random thoughts heading into a stinkin’ hot weekend

• U-Dub-Dub will have a record fourteen, 2011 recruits participating in Saturday’s Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star games at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Four will be participating in Saturday afternoon’s Division 4-7 game. Ten are scheduled to play in Saturday night’s Division 1-3 game

• The Warhawks, including those of you out there in Warhawk Nation, know the importance of playing with that “pound the rock” mentality. After losing four the five starting offensive line to graduation following last December’s NCAA Division III National Championship – the recruitment of offensive lineman was a priority. Saturday afternoon’s Division 4-7 game will have one UWW recruit on the South squad. Thw South O-Line in Saturday night’s Division 1-3 game will be dominated by UWW offensive line recruits. The South squad has four future Hawks on the offensive line with one more listed as a tight end/offensive lineman. Pound the rock baby!!

• There will likely be a strong concern for the health of the All-Stars on Saturday. The teams have just one-week of practice under there belt and the National Weather Service is calling for Saturday’s high temperature in Oshkosh in the low to mid-80s with high humidity. The heat index is expected to be in the lower 90s. If you are going to the game, expect mandatory water breaks, especially during the Division 4-7 game that kicks off at 2 p.m.

• As I indicated yesterday here on the blog, I will be debuting HAWK TUBE on both Voiceseyeonfootball.blogspot.com and Warhawkfootball.com beginning in early August. My plans are to have 3 to 5 minute videos several times a week – including player and coaches interviews, During the season Warhawk fans will be able to view game preview package each Friday, and a complete multi-video recap of each game on Saturday night’s and Sunday.

• The latest edition to the Oh Baby Sports Productions empire will also have an audio only feature entitled Warhawk Football This Week each Wednesday evening beginning August 9th. The show that will be available via a Warhawkfootball.com link will also be available via podcast format on the WFAW/KOOL 106.5 Website.

• I am spending much of my weekend preparing for UWW’s preseason training camp. The team reports for preseason practice on August 12th.

• By the way, I’ll be producing twice-daily Warhawk Training Camp Reports for Gary Douglas at KOOL 106.5. I’ll have more information on program times for you next week. I do know that all the reports will also be available via podcast.

• I’ve had a number of people ask me why I have so many “irons in the fire” just day’s after announcing my retirement after 22 years-plus of being a “Radio Voice” of Warhawk football broadcasts. Now approaching 60 years old I desperately wanted to get some of my new projects “up and running.”

• I sure hope Warhawk Nation will be receptive to the expanded media blitz.

• Oh by the way – there are actually two things will up-stage my Warhawk duties this weekend. My youngest grandson, Jovan Smith, turns four years old and his birthday party with a Pirate and Sponge Bob Square Pants theme, will be held Saturday afternoon at the Madison Children’s Museum. ARRGGG !!! we are going to have a good time.

• Jovan isn’t the only one celebrating a birthday this weekend. The Madison-based, Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is turning 75 on Monday. It was July 18, 1936, that the original Wienermobile vehicle first took to the road. To celebrate, a group of officials from Madison-based Kraft/Oscar Mayer will ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Monday.

• Have a great weekend everybody and STAY COOL!!
