Reason No. 1: What Milwaukee and Madison area fans should know about UW-Whitewater Football

(Editors Note: The Thursday (9/30) evening, UW-Whitewater at UW-Platteville game will have the KOOL 106.5 Warhawk football broadcast with Gary Douglas, Tom Pattison and Arnie Peck simulcast on 100.5 ESPN Madison and 540 ESPN Milwaukee

This is the first of several blog posts that will give Madison and Milwaukee area radio listeners a primer on why UW-Whitewater footall is a regional event, not just a local event)

Many newspaper editors and television stations in southern Wisconsin have long considered UW-Whitewater football as a local sport in a small town. Warhawk football has long been one of the top small college football programs in Wisconsin. Beginning in 2005, UW-Whitewater football became one of the elite NCAA Division III football programs in the country.

For those that live in the Milwaukee and Madison metro area, the majority of student-athletes on any year's Warhawk football roster are recruited to Whitewater from a 100 mile radius of Whitewater.

IE: On the 2010 UW-Whitewater football roster, 56 of the 100 players come from the immediate Milwaukee and Madison metro area.
