When the UW-Whitewater football team enters the field for a home game at Perkins Stadium, are you a black jersey fan or a purple jersey fan?
A reader’s poll that is currently posted here on voiceseyeonfootball.blogspot.com indicates a difference of opinion so far.
Black jerseys currently leads the poll with 12 votes (60%) to purple jerseys 8 votes (40%) of the reader’s poll vote.
The turn to black home jerseys from a school’s traditional home jersey color certainly didn’t start here at Whitewater.
A couple of cases of schools going to the black jersey are Northwestern in football and Duke in baskeball.
While “traditionalists” seemingly favor staying with the school color purple jersey, the younger demographic seems more inclined to favor the trendy black jersey.
When talking Division III college football, I thought it was rather ironic that UW-Whitewater wore their black jersey vs. Mount Union in the 2003 regular season game at Perkins Stadium vs. the Purple Raiders. The following year Mount Union debuted black home jerseys.
In an era of importance of marketing, even at the NCAA Division III level, following popular marketing trends is extremely important.
Please vote today on your home jersey color of choice. Is it purple or black?
